Since October 2023, European legislation 2016/425 requires a seal test to be carried out on the user's ear when delivering custom-made hearing protection. This ensures that your otoplastics function effectively from the start and keep your hearing well protected. So, your otoplastics are not complete and should not be used without a seal test.
To ensure the correct functioning of your otoplastics, this check should be carried out both before first use and annually.
In the Netherlands, an annual test is mandatory from the health and safety at work perspective. This is not explicitly defined in Belgium, although we recommend that a test is carried out annually.
At Vandeputte, we use a calibrated Pluggerz sealing meter. The test is performed by a Vandeputte Custom Safety employee or someone with a User Training Seal Meter certificate from Vandeputte Custom Safety. During the test, we blow air through the filter channel into your ear to measure whether the pressure built up behind the otoplastic is maintained.
