01 june 2015: Are you ready for CLP?

As from 1 June 2015, all hazardous chemical substances and mixtures must be provided with a CLP-compliant label. Until now, this only applied to pure chemicals, but as from 1 June, all mixtures must comply with CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging).

This means that the familiar square orange hazard symbols will disappear, to be replaced by white diamond-shaped variants, with a red border and black drawing. This is in order to comply with the GHS.

Globally Harmonized System (GHS)

The Globally Harmonized System (UN GHS) is a globally harmonized system of classification and labelling of chemical substances and mixtures based on the degree of hazardous properties. This system has been defined by the United Nations. To ensure the implementation of the harmonized system in Europe, the European Commission has drawn up the CLP regulation.
